As a Society, ASTSS aims to provide members with access to training opportunities, a forum for discussion, consultation and dissemination of new research and clinical resources and access to a community of professionals who are similarly committed to working with people, communities and organisations affected by trauma.
The unifying principle at the heart of ASTSS is a commitment to the value of science and evidence-based approaches to understanding the impact of trauma, prevention of traumatic stress injury and treatment where injury has occurred.
ASTSS is also part of an international fellowship of national and regional traumatic stress associations to create a global network of clinicians and researchers committed to advancing the understanding, prevention, and treatment of stress and trauma (https://www.global-psychotrauma.net/).
Our flagship event is the biannual Australasian Conference on Traumatic Stress. Through ACOTS we have been able to bring ASTSS members into contact with the leading trauma clinics and researchers across the world.
We hope in ASTSS you will find a like-minded community of professionals, peer workers and students with a commitment to promoting the understanding of prevention and treatment of major stress and trauma within the Australasian region.
