Understanding and Facilitating Posttraumatic Growth, Richard G. Tedeschi, PhD

ASTSS is excited to announce:

“Understanding and Facilitating Posttraumatic Growth”

Richard G. Tedeschi, Ph.D, Professor of Clinical Psychology, University of North Carolina Charlotte

Friday 18th and Saturday 19th August, 2017 at The Ship Inn, Southbank, Brisbane

About the Workshop:

Professor Richard Tedeschi is a clinician, academic, author and co-founder of the concept of Posttraumatic Growth  in research and practice. This workshop introduces the concept of posttraumatic growth (PTG), that is, how people report personal transformations in the aftermath of traumatic events.  These growth experiences are relatively common, but often ignored in standard trauma theory and practice.

Day 1: Conceptual and theoretical development.

The first day of the workshop will be devoted to the conceptual and theoretical development of PTG over the past 20 years, and a review of research on PTG in various groups of trauma survivors such as combat veterans, patients with serious illnesses, and the bereaved.

Day 2: Putting Posttraumatic Growth into practice.

The second day of the workshop will be devoted to an integrative cognitive-existential-narrative theoretical basis and intervention strategy to facilitate PTG.  This intervention strategy has been labeled an Expert Companionship model for working with trauma survivors.  The workshop is appropriate for professionals who work with any populations who report traumatic events, and who have a basic familiarity with trauma treatment.

Learning objectives are:

  • Understanding the concept of posttraumatic growth, and its five domains.
  • Distinguishing posttraumatic growth from resilience.
  • Understanding and applying the theoretical and research basis of posttraumatic growth to the post-trauma experience.
  • Understanding and utilizing a framework for facilitating posttraumatic growth through expert companionship within existing treatment models.

Both days: Members $495/Non-Members $595. Single Day: Members $295/Non-Members $345
