On the 12th to the 15th of June 2025, I attended the European Society for Traumatic Stress (ESTSS) conference held in Tbilisi, Georgia. I joined 483 others from over 40 countries in a knowledge exchange consisting of presentations, panels, symposia, posters, and others.
I was on an invited panel for the Global Collaboration on Traumatic Stress to discuss global prevalence of PTSD alongside my college, Carolina Saldago from Asociación Chilena del Estrés Traumático (ACET). I provided the most up-to-date Australian and New Zealand data, commenting on the lack of recent updates from the latter. Some reasons why our PTSD rate is considered to be so high (~10%) was presented, including intergenerational trauma from colonisation, offshore detention, and systematic accurate measures through our data collection services. This panel also provided a platform for discussion about representation and discussion about ongoing international conflicts.
While I was at ESTSS2025, I met with Australasian and International trauma researchers and clinicians to discuss collaborations in the near future. For those who are interested, the next European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Conference will be held in Coimbre, Portugal, in 2027. It would be great to have you come along!
