The Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies began its vital work in 1986, as a small interest group, when traumatic stress conditions were unresearched and under-resourced. ASTSS grew from the dedication of a small group of visionaries, to become an incorporated body in South Australia in 1991, then onwards to be the largest member-based traumatic stress society in the Australasian region. Throughout this relatively short history, each President and each committee has made an incremental and valued contribution to the Society. The ASTSS Honorary Life Membership Award recognises such individuals whose contributions to the association stand out in quality and duration. These Awards are given sparingly and with great respect and gratitude for service to ASTSS and its mission.
