ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Psychologist Christine Courtois Ph.D. (University of Maryland), is well recognised for her work on the effects of incest, child sexual abuse and other types of trauma. Dr Courtois has specialised in posttraumatic and dissociative conditions with broad experience in both outpatient and inpatient treatment. Dr Courtois and her work have been acknowledged with awards from many professional organisations. Her relational and trauma-referenced approached is based upon respect for the client and his/her life experience.
Dr Courtois is the current President of Division 56, Psychological Trauma and Co-Chair of the Complex Trauma Task Force of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. Recently Dr Courtois organised and co-directed the Post-Doctoral Institute on Psychological Trauma for the Maryland Psychological Association.
Dr Courtois has authored: Healing the Incest Wound: Adult Survivors in Therapy - now in its second edition;Recollections of Sexual Abuse: Treatment Principles and Guidelines and; Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse: A Workshop Model. Dr Courtois was co-editor of Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders: An Evidence-based Guide with Dr Julian Ford. Dr Courtois has also co-edited a special section on complex trauma with Dr Bessel van der Kolk in the Journal of Traumatic Stress.
Dr. Courtois is Associate Editor of the new journal Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, & Policy. Her new book, The Treatment of Complex Traumaco-authored with Dr Julian Ford, will be published later this year (Guilford).
ASTSS is pleased to bring Dr Courtois to Australia (The Plaza - Adelaide) for an exclusive two day masterclass on the important and evolving field of complex trauma and its treatment. The final day includes a full-hour of Q&A with Dr Courtois.
