THE 18th AUSTRALASIAN CONFERENCE ON TRAUMATIC STRESS.
Trauma and Conflict: Globally, Locally.
September 11th - 13th 2014 Hotel Pullman Melbourne, Albert Park
ASTSS and ACPMH, through the ACOTS Organising Committee,held the 18th Australasian Conference on Traumatic Stress in Victoria. The theme was Trauma and Conflict: Globally, Locally. The conference explored diverse topics including PTSD and combat stress, the mental health problems of refugees, and support for emergency service personnel. Practical clinical tutorials included resilience training in the military, and providing expert mental health evidence within the refugee determination process. Pre-conference workshops, symposia and a panel discussion rounded out a busy 3 day program. Other features of this year's conference included a conference dinner at the spectacular Melbourne Aquarium and a special student program.
Workshop and Masterclass with trauma expert, Professor Edna Foa.
The Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health (ACPMH) and the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ASTSS) were proud to present a unique opportunity to attend this workshop and masterclass with trauma expert, Professor Edna Foa.
Professor Foa conducted a one-day workshop:
- "The Nature of PTSD and its Treatment via Prolonged Exposure", Thursday 8th August.
This was followed by a 2½ day skills-based masterclass, for a limited number of practitioners:
- "Prolonged Exposure: Learning and Practising its Therapeutic Components", Fri 9th - Sun 11th August.
