Freda Briggs, former senior Australian of the year and highly regarded expert on child abuse dies.

It is with great sadness that I read of the passing of Professor Freda Briggs. Professor Briggs was a well known advocate and academic working in the area of child protection. In recognition for her outstanding efforts she became an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2005, and was also named Senior Australian of the Year in 2000. Despite her advancing age she was still an active force in advocating for the needs of children especially in child protection. Professor Briggs had agreed to  participate in a panel discussion at the upcoming Australasian Conference on Traumatic Stress (ACOTS) to be held on the Gold Coast in September. Her absence from participating in our upcoming conference will be sorely felt by her friends, colleagues, and delegates. Our thoughts are with her family and close friends.

Robyne le Brocque – President ASTSS.
